La Axarquiais bordered in the west by the Montes de Malaga, a range of medium sized
mountains covered in scrub and pine forest . To the north, north-east & east are
the Sierras Camarolos, Jobo, Alhama, Tejeda and Almijara, rising to a peak of 2,065m
at La Maroma forming a natural border with Granada province.
The local markets capture the flavour of the area as well as the unmissable fiestas
during the summer. Local crafts ad produce such as honey, olive oil and the area’s
famous Muscat wine can be purchased in the villages too.
The Moorish white villages of Competa, Canillas, Corumbela, Archez and Sedella offer
plenty of interesting buildings, shopping, tapas bars and restaurants.
